Self-care tips from health and wellness experts

The concept of self-care has become something of a buzzword in recent years. Google shows that search traffic for the term has increased dramatically in the last few years, but it has a variety of meanings. Some sources define it as treating yourself to something special or indulging in a luxury, but according to Everyday Health, the term is not synonymous with self-indulgence but simply with taking care of yourself so that you can be well, do your job, and accomplish the things you need to do. 

Here are seven self-care tips from health and wellness experts:

Create a morning routine

Experts say starting your day with an intentional routine helps you feel less overwhelmed and more able to focus on the tasks ahead. Consider a meditation app like Headspace or Calm that helps guide you into a positive mind set.

Stay hydrated! 

Seems simple, right? But it’s pretty easy for us all to get caught up in our responsibilities and slack on the hydration. If this is a common theme for you, you might consider setting a timer or even investing in a water bottle that reminds you when it’s time to take a drink! 

Start a journal

If you’re not sure you’re the journaling type, consider a dot journal. The flexible format allows you to decide how simple or elaborate your journal will be, and whether it will comprise pages and pages of prose, or just checklists, plans, and trackers to stay on top of your routines and activities. 

Breathe some outside air

Exercise can help you get better sleep and feel more alert throughout the day.
